I think some of my time was spent on being the best in my field. During my course of studies, I tried to be an outstanding student. Additionally, as a professional in a leadership role, I wanted to be a role model for the younger staff members. I wanted to please God by allowing others to see how God was using me and giving him the Glory.

• 40+ hours of working (wanting to please boss, doctors, hospital administrators)
• Work accomplishments has been praised/recognized for the implementation of new procedures
• Not convinced (yet) that work is an idol; however, my wanting to be the best at things

Thinking on how you spend the most of your time, is there something that you spend considerable time trying to achieve, Or a person that you spend considerable time trying to appease or impress? Yes… my sister.
Does this person or thing bring you Glory? Peace? Joy? Or, do they take away your Glory? Peace? Joy? Her shunning me, all of my life, right up to this very minute, causes me considerable anguish. Totally takes away my joy because all I have ever wanted, all of my life, is for her to be my best friend.
Could this be an idol? Yes. Why or why not? Because it has, all of my life, been a thorn in my side because I have bent over backwards, since I can remember (age 7) to make her like me and play with me and want to be with me; and she could care less. As of an hour ago, she showed me that she could really care less. We made plans to go somewhere together and she texted me and told me that her daughter was picking her up. I live 3 houses down the street from her. I responded “Only. picking up you?”, and I never got a response. There were other circumstance that was hindering me going that involved my own transportation and a babysitter; and because of no one caring about me or me attending the function, I retreated to my bedroom. Yes, I eventually ended up crying.

Thinking on how you spend the most of your time, is there something that you spend considerable time trying to achieve, Or a person that you spend considerable time trying to appease or impress? I’m always trying to appease my family and children because I feel that I failed them when I was out stuck in an addiction that I thought would bring love unto me and I would live this happy ever afterlife but oh how wrong was I. Not realizing that God had better plans for me (Jeremiah 29:11).
Does this person or thing bring you Glory? Peace? Joy? No
Or, do they take away your Glory? Peace? Joy? It takes away what I feel and think and sees what Glory, peace, and joy really are. “But I’m struggling with finding what it really supposes to look like it and when it comes I think or feel it is the real thing something happens.
Could this be an idol? Why or why not? Yes, it is because I now feel that I’ve given it to much power over me and every time I try and fix it I’m told I’m letting the devil tell me what to do because I’ve chose not to let them have full control over me and my life anymore. (Psalms 23:1). The Lord is my Shepeard and I shall not want for anything.

Idols for me have been internal. I sit with my thoughts much longer than I should (reasoning). This lesson plan has open me up to see that more than I already knew. I brings on worry, confusion and doubt when God’s word offers peace that surpasses all understanding.

This verse puts a lot of things in perspective! Wow this is really deep. I know I need to spend a lot more time with GOD. I spend a lot of time with my son and making memories. I spend time with my husband when he is not working as well as helping others or working on small projects. These things give me Joy and Peace theses are the precious gifts GOD has given me. The Glory goes to GOD when I get to do the things I enjoy and that is putting smiles on peoples faces.

Again, sorry. I got the questions mixed up, previous response is to another question. This is my response to this questionYes, it could definately be an idol because anything that takes away your time and focus from God can be considered an idol. It can cause stagmentation in your relationship and growth.

When you have such strong desires, I never looked at it as wanting them more than I wanted God nor in the contents of that verse. However, now I can see how I may put those things before God by constantly carrying and worrying about them instead of putting it all in God’s hands; just completely turning them over to Him (God).
